Description: Nice .45-78 Wolcott cartridge. The name "Walcott" only refers to the bullet which was named after the president of the Starr Arms Co.. This example is Berdan primed and has no headstamp. The bullet is excellent with a paper patch.

Description: Here is a very scarce .50 two inch cartridge. The casing has a nice overall patina with a few spots. The primer has four firing pin drag marks across the surface.

Y1230     .50-140 Sharps Cartridge 3 1/4" Casing

Description: Here is a very nice and near minty cartridge for the .50-140 Sharps. This scarce cartridge is one of the largest rifle cartridges ever produced in this country. This cartridge was produced by U.M.C. (Union Metallic Cartridge Company) and is headstamped U.M.C / SH / 50-3 1/4. This round was introduced in 1884 and was the most powerful of the buffalo cartridges.

Y1272     Complete Packet of 12 Eley Patent Wire Cartridges 12 Gauge 1 3/8 oz. Shot

Description: Here is a complete packet of 12 12 gauge patent wire shot cartridges. These do not contain powder. They are lead shot wrapped in a small wire cage and wrapped in paper. These were in use from the late 1820's up until the late 1800's. This package still has the original paper label on one end. I have included a photograph of one opened end. The thick outer paper is intact with a few holes and tears near the corners and seams.

Y771     Eley's Universal Shot Cartridge No. 6 for Blackpowder Shotgun

Description: This is a wire shot cartridge produced by Eley of London. This particular example has a wire shot cartridge wrapped in green or yellow paper. This one still has the original outer wrapper with the pull tab. You would tear the outer tan paper wrapper off exposing your encased wire shot. This one has an orange label on the bottom but there isn't an Eley mark. If you unfold the top, there is a label that reads, "Eley's Universal Shot Cartridge No. 6.

Description: Here is one you dont' see everyday. This one has a removable top with an interior wire cage shot. Underneath the shot is a powder charge. This one has the Eley's mark on the base and both pull tabs are in place. A number "5" is written on the top in ink.

Y355     Empty Box for 10 .50 Remington's Army Pistol Frankford Arsenal 1873

Description: Here is a box for 10 .50 Remington Army pistol cartridges. Every piece of the box is here even though it's in four pieces. The top is separated and so is the side. The interior cardboard holder is loose which is how the box was made originally. The box could be repaired if so desired. The original pull string is still attached and the overall body of the box is shellacked which is how they were produced. This would look great sitting next to a few rounds or near your pistol. This one is dated 1873!

Y354     Complete Pack of Frankford Arsenal Internally Primed .45 Ammunition for 1873 Colt Army/1875 Schofield Dated 1878

Description: Here is a very nice box of .45 ammunition for the 1873 Colt Army and the 1875 Smith & Wesson Schofield. This box is in very nice shape and still has the full pull string attached to the side. There is a very slight seam crack above where the pull string starts but is only mentioned for exactness. This type of box was originally shellacked  giving the appearance of a variation of colors. This would make an excellent addition to any Colt or Indian War cartridge collection.

Y814     Wooden Box Containing (18) .50-45 Benet Primed Cadet/Carbine Cartridges

Description: Here is something you don't see everyday. This is an original wooden block packet containing 18 .50-45 Benet primed cartridges for the .50 carbine. This box has a removable top. There is an interior slot bored out for every cartridge. The top of the lid is bored out to accept the cartridge heads. This piece was originally packed with a string running around the edge covered by paper. To open the packet, one would pull on the string. This block is similar to those used in the Frazier's cartridge boxes but the top is not angled. The box is solid with a slight crack in the top section. This piece is unique and must have been made at an Arsenal. I haven't been able to find much about this packet either. A unique and rare piece!

Y743     Empty Box for 20 Remington Rolling Block Hepburn Cartridges by Union Metallic Cartridge Company of Bridgeport, Connecticut.

Description: Here is an empty box that would have originally held 20 .40 cartridges for the Remington Hepburn Rolling block. Based on the label, this box would be pre 1900. The front label is still in excellent shape and has darkened with age. The back still has the original guarantee label. The top of the box doesn't have any split seams. The base of the box does have split seams but the interior pasteboard box is great. This would make an excellent addition to your rolling block collection.

Y1100     Complete Full and Correct Box of Ten .40-70 2.5" Sharps Straight Cartridges by Union Metallic Cartridge Company

Description: Excellent box of ammo for the .40-70-330 Sharps. The ammo and box are in excellent condition for their age. The seams are still strong and the ammo and interior paper are minty!

Y1102     Full, Complete, and Correct Box of 20 .45-60 W.C.F. Winchester Central Fire Cartridges

Description: Here is a nice box of 20 .45-60 W.C.F. cartridges. This box dates to 1880. The caliber and powder call-out are not in block letters. There is a small piece of the label missing from the top. One lid seam was split and has been glued. All the cartridges do not have the headstamp. All the cartridges but three are excellent. Three of them have powder burn. There is also one small spot on the side corner that is bumped but mentioned for exactness. This is a buff style box with some age and soiling. This cartridge would have been used in the Winchester Model 1876 and Model 1885.

Z2017     Complete Full and Intact Box of 50 Eley-Kynoch 16 Gauge Pinfire Shotshell Cartridges (No. 6 Shot)

Description: Here is a complete, full, and correct box of (50) 16 gauge pinfire shotshells. These were produced by Eley-Kynoch in their Birmingham factory and are manufactured for use in black powder shotguns. The headstamp on these particular shells dates this box from the late 1920's -1961. If you have a 16 gauge pinfire shotgun, this would look great sitting next to it.

Y775     Empty Box for the Model 1865 .56/50 Spencer Carbine Cartridges (C.D.Leet)

Description: Here is a very nice original box that would have originally held 42 .56/50 Spencer Carbine cartridges. This box would hold six sleeves of seven cartridges. The top measures approximately 2" x 4.75" x 2." The bottom measures approximately 2" x 4.5" x 3.25." A combined measurement when the two are together is 2" x 4.75" x 3.5." The label reads, "Forty-Two / Patent Primed / Metallic Cartridges, / Patented September 7, 1852, and April 17, 1860, For Spencer Carbine. -- / Calibre 50-100. / Model 1865. / Manufactured by C.D. Leet, Springfield, Masss." The proprietorship of Charles D. Leet operated out of Springfield, Massachusetts from 1864-1866. This box contains a very nice and readable label. It is important to note, this box was manufactured so the tips of the sleeves would be accessible and stick out a little bit. These boxes are becoming increasingly difficult to find.

Y1144     Unopened and Minty Box of 25 .56-50 Spencer Cartridges by the Winchester Repeating Arms Company of New Haven, Connecticut

Description: Here is a top notch box containing 25 .56-50 Spencer cartridges by Winchester. This particular box is full, correct, and sealed. It does contain the Stetson's Patent information on the bottom right. The actual patent date was October 31, 1874. If you like minty boxes, this one is for you. They really don't get much better than this!

Y1145     Box of 20 Cartridge for .38-55 Ballard / Marlin / & Winchester Single Shot Rifles by U.M.C. (Union Metallic Cartridge Company) in Bridgeport, Connecticut.

Description: Here is a very nice box containing 20 .38-55 cartridges for Ballard and Marlin Rifles. These cartridges can also be used in the Winchester single shot rifles. The box is full and correct and the ammunition is excellent. The top left seam is split and there is a little nick on the front right corner. Other than that it's an excellent box. There are two advertising stickers on this box "FROM THE SPORTSMEN'S WAREHOUSE / EDWARD ANSCHUTZ 206 SOUTH THIRD ST. / PHILADELPHIA." These boxes from the late 1800's are scarce in this condition.
