Description: Nice button with the stand up shank intact. These buttons are thought to date to the post war era. There are very few known excavated examples unlike the Robinson backmarked examples which are dug in period sites.

Z1351     Federal Eagle Cavalry "C" Overcoat Button

Description: Here is a very nice button that was recovered near Sharpsburg, Md.. This button has the early rmdc backmark. The shank is slightly bent and there is a small push or shovel mark on the back. There are no pushes to the face or cracks and the stand up shank is intact and bent. This button along with many other relics were recovered in the vicinity of the Smoketown Rd., Mansfield Rd., and the Keedsyville Rd. area. This area was used as the staging area for the East Woods. Every house in the area was used a hospital directly following the Battle of Antietam.

Z504     Virginia Military Institute Coat Button (VMI)

Description: These buttons are slightly transitional/post war. They don't show up on period uniforms and they don't show up with other excavated buttons of the same style. This is the pattern where the spear touches the bottom of the "D" in CADET. The back and shank are slightly pushed on this example.
